In Yercaud, villagers participated in a sit-in protest and roadblock on Monday  to demand the repair of the rough and uneven roads

Kollagur, a hill village under Nagalur Panchayat, is located about 18 kilometers from Yercaud in Salem District. Surrounding it are 23 other hill villages, including Thalur Kadu, Surakkai Patti, Chettipatti, Veerachur, Puliyamarathur, Veppadi, Kolagur, and Poovarathur.

More than 2,000 families reside in these villages. Daily wage laborers and school-going children have to traverse these rough and uneven roads.

Additionally, tourists traveling to Yercaud also have to use these poorly maintained roads. Due to substandard road construction over the past five years, the tar road has deteriorated severely. Villagers have repeatedly petitioned the authorities to fix the rough and uneven roads, but no action has been taken so far.

Yesterday over 100 residents of Kollagur village staged a roadblock and engaged in a sit-in protest in their village, expressing their frustration at the lack of action.

As a result, there was a tense atmosphere in the area. Officials held talks with the villagers, and the protest was eventually called off.
