 Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated a Rs 2,465 crore seawater desalination plant at Nemmeli, East Coast Road, Chengalpattu 
District. 
Then, he said: a project close to my heart is the project to make sea water potable. The foundation stone of 39 new projects has been laid at an estimated cost of Rs.1,802 crore. Today is not enough to list the projects we have implemented. Municipal administration, drinking water supply department is working very well. 
Despite the financial crisis, we are implementing many drinking water projects.
The people of North Chennai are benefiting from Meenjoor seawater desalination project. 
Around 9 lakh people will benefit from the Nemmeli desalination plant. 
The drinking water requirement of South Chennai areas will be met through this treatment plant. 
The desalination plant has a production capacity of 150 million liters per day. Drinking water will be distributed to 12 places including Madipakkam, Velachery and Pallavaram. India's largest desalination plant has been installed in Chennai.  
Works worth Rs.70 crore have been completed in Chennai Corporation.
Tamil Nadu is a highly urbanized state. We are implementing combined drinking water projects at a cost of Rs.100 crores in dire straits. DMK, after taking charge of the government, many projects have been carried out in the Corporation and municipalities. One day is not enough to list the tasks. 
Many structures including flyovers in Chennai were built by DMK rule. 
DMK government is not issuing empty announcements, he added.
