Bangalore's Narayana Health Hospital has successfully performed a complex liver transplantation surgery to save the life of a 1-year-old baby Dr CV Raghavendra, a medical specialist of the hospital, said: Tanvika, from Erode district, was diagnosed with propionic acidemia, a metabolic liver disorder, six months ago.
Parents who sensed the danger, approached the hospital which is famous for the surgery. Dr. Sanjay Goja, Director and Clinical Lead, Senior Consultant Liver Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Manoj Singh, Dr. Varun Mahabaleshwar, Dr. Raghavendra CV (Liver Transplant Surgeons), Dr. Ravi Kiran, Dr. Vinay (Hepatologists) and Dr. Vidyadhar Metri (Liver Transplant Anesthetist), presided over this complex operation. Dr. Anil Sapare and Dr. Sagar Hiremath (Pediatrician) was also present. 
This disease can cause complications such as severe metabolic acidosis, and recurrent seizures, delayed milestones, and failures to thrive. 1 in 10 lakh children will get this disease. 
So, the baby received a 20 percent liver donation from her father in October 2023 and underwent 
surgery. 
Currently, the baby is doing well under regular doctor's care. 
This hospital has so far performed such surgery on 150 children. 
Full medical expenses are covered under the Tamil Nadu Government Medical Insurance Scheme. 
The hospital was founded by cardiac surgeon Dr.  Devi Prasad Shetty. 
It is India's largest medical institution. 
It works with 45 medical units both domestically and internationally.
Under this, 18 owned/operated hospitals, one managed hospital, three cardiac centers, 21 primary health care facilities and one hospital in the Cayman Islands were functioning with a total of 
6,164 beds.
