The Madurai Railway Division celebrated World Environment Day with various activities focused on environmental awareness and sustainability.
Events took place at multiple locations, including the Divisional Railway Manager's Office in Madurai, Madurai Junction Railway Station, and other stations across the region.
At the Divisional Railway Manager's Office, Divisional Railway Manager Sharad Srivastava administered the World Environment Day and Mission Life pledge. He also flagged off an environmental awareness rally, which saw participation from NCC cadets of Madurai College and Thiagarajar College, Bharat Scouts and Guides of Madurai Division, and students of the Railway School.
The rally aimed to promote environmental consciousness among the participants and the community.
Tree saplings were planted at the Divisional Office premises and in the Railway Colony.
The Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organization (SRWWO), led by President Priya Agrawal, organised a tree plantation at the new Running Room premises.
This year’s World Environment Day theme is ‘Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.’ To align with this theme, an online quiz competition on environmental awareness was held for the division's staff.
The observance of World Environment Day will continue throughout the month with a series of programs. These include a mass tree plantation drive, land restoration activities like reforestation and soil conservation, and the creation of green spaces at railway stations, colonies, and depots. Additionally, there will be efforts to create and renovate rainwater harvesting pits.
These initiatives reflect the Madurai Railway Division's commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
