A team consisting of 14 members headed by the FSSAI District Nominating Officer Dr M Tamilselvan conducted a surprise field inspection in many areas of the Coimbatore city on Thursday. A total of 55 shops including godowns and wholesale shops were surveyed during this surprise field visit.
mall chemical packets were found in the 15 godowns and 16 wholesale shops inside each fruit box to ripe mangoes.
So, 16.1 tonnes of mangoes and rotten apples were seized and destroyed. The market value of the confiscated fruits is about Rs.12.91 lakh.
The officials warned the same traders using chemicals to ripe fruits with stern action. Public can lodge complaints about it to Food Safety Department's WhatsApp number 94440 42322.
