The police arrested men from Rajasthan involved in a daring ATM robbery in Thrissur, Kerala, following a dramatic chase and confrontation near Namakkal, Tamil Nadu.
The robbers were fleeing in a container lorry, which collided with several vehicles before coming to a stop.
When police attempted to apprehend them, the suspects attacked by throwing stones.
In the ensuing altercation, one robber was shot dead by the police, and another was seriously injured and admitted to Pallipalayam Government Hospital.
The incident caused a significant disruption, blocking traffic on the national highway for over three hours.
The investigation revealed that the container lorry carried more than ₹65 lakhs in cash, a luxury car without a number plate, and several weapons, including guns.   The lorry was registered in Rajasthan, and the suspects are also believed to be from Rajasthan.
Further probing uncovered that the robbers were linked to a series of ATM heists, including one in Thrissur where ₹18 lakh was stolen, and possibly other ATM thefts across Kerala.
The lorry also contained an ATM machine, raising suspicions that the cash inside might have been looted from Kerala.   The group is suspected to be part of the notorious Bavaria gang, known for using container trucks to carry out robberies across different parts of the country.
The Tamil Nadu police, in coordination with Kerala's special forces, are intensifying the investigation, also looking into the gang’s involvement in a 2 kg gold heist in Kerala.
The body of the deceased robber has been sent to Pallipalayam Government Hospital. The arrest of these suspects marks a significant breakthrough in curbing interstate robbery  activities.
