The Coimbatore Traffic Investigation Police have arrested driver Radhakrishnan in connection with the overturning of an LPG tanker truck on the Old Avinashi Road flyover.
The accident, which occurred yesterday, involved a tanker carrying 18 tonnes of LPG gas and caused significant alarm as gas leaked from the overturned vehicle.
The incident led to a massive eight-hour rescue operation involving multiple departments to safely remove the tanker.
Officials managed to secure the area and avert any major mishap, drawing widespread appreciation for their coordinated efforts and precision in handling the volatile situation. Following the accident, police booked the driver under eight sections of the law, citing his involvement in the mishap.
His arrest has sparked concern among other drivers, particularly given the long-standing issue of the narrow roundabout on the Avinashi Road flyover.
Residents of Coimbatore have been vocal about the need to expand and reconstruct the flyover to address safety concerns.
The arrest has reignited these demands, highlighting the challenges posed by the infrastructure on one of the city's busiest routes.
