A wild elephant entered the residential area of Viraliyur, next to Thondamuthur, causing widespread panic among the residents. The Boluvampatti Forest Department was immediately alerted, and both forest officials and local residents rushed to the scene to attempt to guide the elephant back to the forest.
However, around ten o'clock at night, a single wild elephant began moving aggressively through the area. The forest department issued warnings to residents to stay away from the animal for their safety. Despite these warnings, two young men, 24-year-old Karthi from Indira Colony and 22-year-old Harish, who works as a labourer in a private company, attempted to drive the elephant away. Unfortunately, the elephant attacked the men. Harish managed to escape, but Karthi stumbled and fell. The elephant then charged at Karthi, trampling him to death on the spot. Harish, who also fell while trying to flee, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment. The incident has left the local community in shock, highlighting the dangers of approaching wild animals despite warnings from authorities.
