A 2.5 kg spleen from a young woman removed at Gem Hospital at Erode

A 2.5 kg weight spleen was removed from a 36 kg young woman at Erode Gem Hospital without excessive bleeding. 

Gautamaraj (28) hails from Thiruchengot in Namakkal district. His wife Yogambal (28). A Nurse. They have three-and-a-half-year-old twin girls. Yogambal for last 2 years was being treated in various hospitals for severe pain in the left side of his stomach and anemia for the past 2 years in different hospitals 

She was admitted to the Gem Hospital for treatment on June 16. Dr. KL Sathishkumar, a gastroenterologist at the hospital, diagnosed her and found that she was suffering with low levels of red blood cells and platelets in her blood for years due to inflammation of the spleen. 

So, on June 19, Yogambal underwent surgery and the spleen was removed. The spleen, which should weigh an average of 250 grams, has 2.5 kg weight in the woman's body. Only 4 out of 100,000 people have this problem due to genetics. She is now in good health.  Dr. K.L. Sathish Kumar, Anesthesiologist Dr. Anusha and Nursing Team were felicitated by Gem Hospital Chairman Dr. C. Palanivelu and Managing Director Dr. Praveenraj for conducting a rare surgery.
