Close on heels of coming into effect of the Citizenship Amendement Act (CAA), Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam president Vijay (Tamil film actor) had issued a statement yesterday. It said, ``In an environment where all the people of the country are living with social harmony, any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 which is implemented with divisive politics in mind is not acceptable. He mentioned that those in power should give an assurance that they will not implement this law in Tamil Nadu.
But which government brought this law? Who brought it? Not even a word has been said in the statement of Vijay. Vijay has issued a statement of condemnation without even condemning those who brought in the law in the first place.
Importantly, Vijay did not oppose  the Central  Government even through a single word which brought this law. On the contrary, Vijay has requested the state government not to implement this law, which has created a serious debate.
DMK has already brought a resolution against this law in the state assembly. Also Chief Minister Stalin has been continuously opposing this law.
He is also saying that he will not allow this in Tamil Nadu. That being the casemm, the question arises as to why Vijay is criticizing the state government without criticizing the central government.
Vijay should have investigated more seriously and commented.
Political observers believe that  a generalised statment will backfire on Vijay, who is new to politics. Leaders of political parties should express their opinion strongly and clearly. TVP leader actor Vijay should understand that giving opinion without any validity is not conducive to the development of the party!
