Union Budget 2024: Alleged neglect of TN and political outrage

People had high expectations for Modi 3.0's Government first full Union Budget. Every  state hoped for budget allocations for their key projects, new initiatives, and concessions. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had already outlined the expectations of Tamil Nadu citizens in the budget.
Against this backdrop, the Union Finance Minister, in her one-and-a-half-hour budget speech, announced ₹26,000 crore projects only for Bihar, and ₹15,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh. In addition, various concessions for these two states were also announced in the budget.
Meanwhile, the alliance government led by Prime Minister Modi continues to be in power in Bihar with Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) and in Andhra Pradesh with Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party. This has led to speculation that the budget allocations were made generously to appease alliance partners, sparking controversy.
Following this, there was an expectation that other states would also receive projects, concessions, and budget allocations. However, no such announcements were made in Nirmala Sitharaman’s speech. Tamil Nadu was not mentioned even once, and there was no mention of any announcements related to the expectations and projects for Tamil Nadu.
There was no announcement regarding the budget allocation for already ongoing projects. The much-anticipated Chennai Metro Rail project received no budget allocation announcement. The Coimbatore, Madurai Metro Rail projects, new rail projects, and highways also saw no mention by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Typically, Nirmala Sitharaman's Tamil quotes receive special attention among Tamilians, but this time she forgot to mention verses from Purananuru, Thirukkural, and Aathichudi. Did she forget Tamil Nadu or the Tamil language itself in the budget?
The DMK, along with many political leaders from parties including the AIADMK, have condemned the central government for consistently neglecting Tamil Nadu. To escalate the protest, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced that he will boycott all meetings called by the Prime Minister with all Chief Ministers due to the complete neglect of Tamil Nadu in the budget.
While the Union Budget had some commendable elements, the complete neglect of Tamil Nadu is evident.
