A district-level entrepreneur networking meeting was held yesterday at the District Rural Development Agency hall in Tiruvannamalai, led by District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian. The event, organised under the Vazhndu Kaatuvom project by the Rural Development Department, aimed to enhance the marketing of products made by women's self-help groups (SHGs).
Addressing the gathering, the Collector highlighted the significant achievements of the Vazhndu Kaatuvom Project, by project director S. Tamilmaran in which operates in 3994 gram panchayats across Tamil Nadu. The initiative provides a range of services, including producer groups, industrial groups, community farm schools, and skill schools. Notably, it has pioneered a co-financing scheme with a 35% subsidy, recognised as a milestone pilot project even by the United Nations.
In Tiruvannamalai district, this scheme has benefited 600 entrepreneurs across 308 panchayats, with a subsidy outlay of Rs. 5.95 crore. The initiative has been made possible through partnerships with over 12 banks, ensuring seamless disbursal of subsidies and loans.
For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a large-scale "Business Network Meet" was organised in Tiruvannamalai, bringing together key stakeholders such as Indian Bank, startup ecosystem representatives, and export-oriented firms like Jinan Rishi IE Trading Company and Agrisakhi. Discussions focused on enhancing the quality and market reach of products made by women's SHGs, including spices supplied for the Chief Minister's breakfast scheme for school children.
The meeting emphasised the importance of leveraging these opportunities for growth and entrepreneurship, with necessary guidance provided for export and local sales strategies. The event witnessed participation from project officers, social experts, and SHG members.
