A voter awareness program was conducted on Monday at the Arani Fort Sports Ground, led by District Electoral Officer and District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, as part of the Integrated Child Development Program.
In preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for April 19, various awareness programs are being organised by different departments under the guidance of the District Electoral Officer and the District Collector.
These include the Department of Rural Development, Municipal Administration, Women's Program, School Education Department, Disabled Persons Welfare Department, and Social Welfare Department.
During the event, which commenced with a traditional Silambattam performance and Aarti, special emphasis was placed on educating first-time voters above the age of 18 about the importance of voting. Over 1500 Anganwadi workers participated in the event, forming a finger shape in the sports arena and spreading awareness using the torchlight from their mobile phones.
Traditional dances such as Silambattam and Kolattam were also used to convey the message of voting rights.
Additionally, tricolour balloons were flown, and a signature drive was conducted to further raise awareness. Attendees took a voter pledge, and the District Collector personally engaged with people in flower shops, grocery stores, tea shops, and other public areas around the Arani Fort ground and bus station, enlightening them about their right to vote.
