The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM), Coimbatore, celebrated National Farmers’ Day on December 23 with a special event honouring ten farming families from Pethikuttai and Sambaravallipudur villages in Karamadai block.
These farmers cultivate a variety of crops, including banana, millets, and vegetables, and are involved in silkworm rearing, poultry farming, and cattle feed production.
Dr. P Alli Rani, Director of SVPISTM, presided over the celebration, emphasising the pivotal role of farmers in sustaining the nation’s economy. Addressing the gathering of students, faculty, and guests, she highlighted the importance of recognising and supporting farmers' contributions.
The event featured a vibrant cultural program by SVPISTM students, including music, art, and dance performances that celebrated the spirit of farming. Dr. Alli Rani felicitated the farmer families, acknowledging their hard work and resilience.
One of the honoured farmers, S Mahalingam, who specialises in silkworm and poultry rearing and banana cultivation, shared insights into the challenges faced by farmers in the
region.
He encouraged unemployed graduates to consider agriculture as a viable and rewarding career option.
The day also included fun activities for the farmers, making the event a meaningful and enjoyable experience.
