Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the expansion of the Pudhumai Penn Scheme at an event in Thoothukudi on December 30. The scheme provides Rs. 1,000 monthly financial assistance to girl students study

Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the expansion of the Pudhumai Penn Scheme at an event in Thoothukudi on December 30. The scheme provides Rs. 1,000 monthly financial assistance to girl students studying in Tamil medium from class 6 to 12 in government-aided schools who pursue higher education. The expansion aims to benefit 75,028 girl students across Tamil Nadu.
During the inauguration, CM Stalin emphasised the progress of women in Tamil Nadu, proudly stating, “Tamil Nadu women are top in scoring, top in enrolling in higher education, and top in getting jobs. This is the dream of Periyar.”
He contrasted this progress with those who focus on divisive ideologies and outdated beliefs about women’s roles, reaffirming his commitment to women's empowerment through education.
Tracing the state’s history of educational reform, Stalin highlighted the contributions of the Justice Party, Kamaraj's emphasis on school education, and Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s efforts to expand college education.
He noted that the current Dravidian model government continues this legacy with initiatives like free travel for women, loan assistance to self-help groups, and the Rs. 1,000 women’s rights allowance.
He cited research showing increased college enrollment rates among female students due to the Pudhumai Penn Scheme as evidence of its success.
The Chief Minister urged female students to focus on education, pursue higher studies, and contribute to society as professionals. “If a man entering college signifies educational progress, a woman entering college signifies social revolution,” he said, promising to eliminate obstacles to women's education.
Ministers Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Geetha Jeevan, and Anitha Radhakrishnan, along with DMK MPs and MLAs, attended the event.
