Sanitation workers in Coimbatore staged a protest today to voice their demands and grievances. The workers, employed by the Coimbatore Corporation, gathered in the Tatabad area to boycott work and demonstrate.
During the protest, they raised slogans condemning the corporation administration for failing to provide financial support for ritualistic activities of deceased sanitation workers. They also highlighted several key demands.
First, the workers demanded that their salaries be paid according to the order of the Municipal Executive Director. Additionally, they called for a minimum wage of Rs. 745. The protestors also demanded the cancellation of the contract with the private company that has not provided ESI and PF benefits for the past eight months. Lastly, they sought a relief amount of Rs. 15,000 for front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The demonstration saw the participation of more than 50 sanitation workers.
