Tamilnadu government gives special Pongal gift package every year to celebrate Tamil Thirunalam Pongal festival with joy. This scheme was introduced in 2009 during late Chief Minister Kalaingar Karunanidhi’s regime.
This year Tamil Nadu government issued a G.O on the 2nd of January that a special Pongal gift package containing one kg of  rice, sugar and sugarcane will be given.
Accordingly, 238 crore 92 lakh, 72 thousand, 741 rupees have been allocated to 2 crore 19 lakh 57 thousand 402 family card holders in Tamil Nadu.
Following this, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has ordered to give Rs. 1000 cash each to the family card holders in addition to Pongal special gift package.
Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Nellai, Thoothukudi, Thenkasi and Kanyakumari have experienced unprecedented rains in 8 districts.
Due to this, not only roads and bridges were damaged, but also houses and agricultural crops were affected.
Union Ministers and Union Committees came and went. But the Union Government has not given a single penny of relief fund till
now.
The Tamil Nadu government is restoring basic amenities from its own funds and has given Rs.6 thousand each to the victims.
In addition to this, the Chief Minister has announced that thousand rupees will be given along with the Pongal package.
In his social media post, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said,”Our Dravidian model government is standing by to spread joy in every home even in this dangerous environment by giving Pongal gift package and
Rs.1000 cash.''
