The Supreme Court gave a verdict on interim bail for Delhi Chief Minister's election campaign.
During the proceedings, yesterday, the Enforcement Directorate filed a 44-page affidavit in the Supreme Court strongly protesting this. Among them, many politicians have contested elections while in jail. But no politician has been granted bail for campaigning. It is not a fundamental right to engage in election campaign and therefore, the interim bail plea should be rejected. If Arvind Kejriwal is granted interim bail, it will set a wrong precedent, the Enforcement Directorate had said.
But the Supreme Court rejected the argument of the enforcement department and granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal till June 1.
This is the first time in Indian judicial history that relief has been granted to a political party leader who is in jail for campaigning. The granting of interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal despite strong opposition from the enforcement department is seen as a landmark decision in the history of the judiciary.
It is no exaggeration to say that Kejriwal's argument that the Center is using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI to hunt down the opposition parties has had a major impact on the case.
Let's wait and see what impact Arvind Kejriwal's campaign will have on the electoral field!
