Internal disputes continue to unsettle the AIADMK as the Two-Leaves symbol remains a contested issue. The factional conflict over ownership of the symbol has now escalated to the Election Commission, with no resolution in sight. Meanwhile, the BJP continues its efforts to ally with the AIADMK, but former Chief Minister Eddappady K Palaniswami has repeatedly denied any ties with the party. Concerns have arisen within the AIADMK about potential obstacles to the Two-Leaves symbol.
In this context, a petitioner named Suriyamoorthy from Dindigul filed a plea in the Madras High Court, seeking a directive to the Election Commission not to grant the Two-Leaves symbol to AIADMK until internal disputes are resolved. Suriyamoorthy argued that no response had been received from the Election Commission regarding his earlier petition filed in February, requesting a stay on issuing the symbol. He sought the court’s order to ensure the Commission delivers a verdict within four weeks, hearing all stakeholders, including O. Panneerselvam.
The court has instructed the Election Commission to make a decision within four weeks and to hear all parties concerned. Any objections must be submitted by January 13, 2025. The final verdict from the Election Commission will likely mark the resolution of this long-standing dispute over the dual-leaves symbol, which remains a key identity of the AIADMK.
