Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently addressed reporters in Perambur regarding the new railway line project from Madurai to Thoothukudi via Aruppukottai. He stated that the Tamil Nadu government had expressed concerns about land and environmental issues, leading to the project's cancellation.
This statement contradicted Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's earlier request for the project's implementation, causing public confusion. In response, BJP leader K. Annamalai and AIADMK announced protests.
Subsequently the minister explained that due to background noise during the press conference, he had mistakenly referred to the Dhanushkodi project instead. This clarification has been welcomed, highlighting the importance of accurate communication from officials.
The incident underscores the need for all political leaders to speak based on facts, regardless of their position.
