Nilgiris District Collector Mrs. M. Aruna presented shields and certificates of appreciation to 97 students who won in various competitions conducted by the adi dravida welfare department in connection with the vedictory of humanity week celebration held at the tribals culture centre, Ooty on Wednesday.
She said Gandhiji fought for the abolition of untouchability and humanity throughout his life and sacrificed his life for it. So,on Jan 30, the pledge against untouchability was administered.
Also, Tamil Nadu Government is celebrating Humanity Week from Jan 24 to 30.
By conducting it, awareness is created among the school, college students and general public about humanity.  Everyone has equal rights in the society. Students should be created awareness about the importance and necessity of humanity.
She visited Government Adi Dravida Welfare High School gave certificates of appreciation to  5 teachers and free sewing machines worth Rs.6,000 each to 2 beneficiaries.    District Panchayat President Mr. Ponthos, Director of Tribal Research Center Dr. Udayakumar, Utagai RDO Mr. Maharaj, Utagai Panchayat Union President Mr. Mayan (A) Mathan, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer  Mr. Tamilmani, District Education Officer Mr. Parthasarathi, Tribal Welfare Special District Officer Mrs. Mohana, school principals, college professors, parents, students and many others participated.
