Prime Minister Modi  said in a recent interview to a private media that before the release of the movie 'Gandhi' in 1982, no one knew Mahatma Gandhi, has drawn wide criticism.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi mocked the Prime Minister's speech by saying, "Only a student who has learned the entire political science can know about Mahatma Gandhi by watching a Gandhi film."
CPIM party president Sitaram Yechury said, “Before Modi was born, Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 5 times.
He has no need to identify himself on the world stage. It is shocking that Modi says that the world came to know about Gandhi only through the film Gandhi”.
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera said, “Fortunately, Gandhi's statue has been installed in many countries even before Modi became the Prime Minister.
Otherwise, instead of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the statues of Ben Kingsley (the actor who played Gandhi in the film Gandhi) would have been installed,” he teased.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi said, "Gandhi is a pioneer for the liberation of many countries of the world.
The world speaks of Gandhi's fame.
But it is surprising that Modi, who is the Prime Minister of the country, has so little understanding of his own country and the freedom fighters.
The younger generation may not believe that such a flesh and blood man ever lived on this earth”.
Scientist Albert Einstein praised Mahatma Gandhi and expressed his fear that the new generation may not even be able to understand Mahatma Gandhi in the changing environment. His fears must not come true.
Prime Minister Modi could have avoided criticizing Mahatma Gandhi!
