A ceremony was organised on Field Manekshaw’s death anniversary at Nilgiris

A wreath-laying ceremony marked the 16th death anniversary of Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw at the Parsi Zoroastrian Cemetery in Ooty, organised by the station headquarters, Wellington.

Field Marshal Manekshaw, a decorated soldier honoured with Padma Vibushan, Padma Bhushan, and Military Cross, was remembered fondly on this occasion. Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM, Commandant of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, representing the tri-services fraternity, laid a wreath at the final resting place of the revered military leader.

Brigadier Sunil Kumar Yadav, Station Commander of Wellington, also paid homage by laying a wreath during the ceremony, which was attended by members of the local Parsi community.

Field Marshal Manekshaw had a deep connection with Wellington, having settled there after his illustrious military career. His association with the town dates back to his tenure as Commandant of Defence Services Staff College, where he forged strong bonds with the local community. His presence and contributions were cherished by the people of Nilgiris, reflecting his enduring legacy in the region.
