The 2nd MRI scan equipment, costing Rs.13 crore, was inaugurated by Health Minister Ma.Subramanian for public use at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
District Collector.Kranthikumar Pati, Corporation Commissioner Ma.Sivaguruprabahakaren, Deputy Mayor.Ra.Vetriselvan, former MLA .N.Karthik, Zonal Committee President Mrs.Meenaloku, Councillor. Suma, Principal of Government Medical College Hospital Maru. Nirmala, Principal of ESI Medical College Hospital Dr. Ravindran, Medical Superintendent Kannadasan and others were present.
The current waiting time for an outpatient for MRI scan is around 2 to 3 days. Also, a scan takes 40 minutes.
Only 30 to 32 scans can be taken per day. But the new equipment can perform within 20 minutes of a single scan.
This will reduce the waiting time as more number of scans can be taken. The new 1.5 Tesla MRI scan tool will be very helpful in detecting lesions in neurology, cardiology and oncology tests, he added.
