Under the free bicycle distribution scheme, a total of 26,274 students in Salem district, including 11,726 boys and 14,548 girls from government and government-aided schools, are set to receive bicycles worth ₹12.43 crore, said, Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister Mr. R. Rajendran 
Spealing at a free bicycles distribution function at  St. Mary’s Girls Higher Secondary School in Arisipalayam today as part of the program. Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, the minister noted the substantial investments made under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin.
He emphasized the success of initiatives like the Puthumai Penn Thittam and Tamil Mudhalvan Thittam, which provide monthly financial incentives of ₹1,000 to students, totaling ₹36,000 over three years or ₹60,000 over five years. "These schemes not only support students financially but also encourage them to pursue higher education," he added.
The minister urged students to take full advantage of these opportunities to excel academically and improve their futures. A total of 355 students recieved the free bicycles.
The event was attended by District Collector Dr. R. Brindha Devi, IAS, Salem Mayor Mr. A. Ramachandran, Chief Educational Officer Dr. M. Kabir, Municipal Councilor Mrs. Savitha Prakash, other local representatives, government officials, and students.
