As the Northeast Monsoon is intensifying, it is raining widely across Tamil Nadu. In Nagapattinam district yesterday due to incessant rain, many low-lying areas got waterlogged. In Nagai District, Kodiakarai, Nagai and Velankanni received a maximum of 18 cm.
In many areas near Nagai collector office, Sivasakthi and Valliammai Nagar, residents were affected due to rain water entering the residences in the city. Similarly, in Vedaranyam Vedaranyeswarar Temple, rainwater stagnates in the inner and outer spaces. Similarly, other Delta districts were also lashed by rain.
In particular, 20 thousand acres of paddy crops in Nagai district, 2 thousand acres in Tanjore district, 5 thousand in Tiruvarur district and 20 thousand acres in Mayiladuthurai district are submerged in water. Beyond the Cauvery delta, the nearby Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts also received good rainfall.
Similarly, Nellai, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts received heavy rain.
Theni, Dindigul, Trichy, Ariyalur and Karur also received widespread rain. Cuddalore. Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Puducherry and Karaikal also received rain. Like Nagai district, crops were affected in Karaikal too.
Delay in storm formation: No move for the past few hours
The formation of the storm is further delayed as the deep depression is moving at a speed of 2 km per hour. A deep depression has formed over the Bay of Bengal. The depression is expected to intensify into a storm and make landfall on November 30. This deep depression is predicted to cross the coast between Karaikal and Mamallapuram. At this stage, the storm is further delayed. The deep depression is located at a distance of 480 km from Chennai.
