Twenty-five contestants from Attur Vasishta Silambam Academy have qualified for the national competition after excelling in the 3rd State-level Silambam Championship held at Ayodhyapattinam.
Over 500 participants from various districts, including Salem, Coimbatore, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Madurai, and Erode, competed in the event, organized by Salem District Gretta Bharathi and Attur Vasishta Silambam Academy. Notably, 13 participants hailed from the village of Kadambur, adding to the local pride.
The competition featured categories such as sub-junior, junior, sub-senior, senior, and super senior. Salem district athletes claimed the overall championship, while Perambalur secured second place and Coimbatore took third.
The 25 athletes selected from this state-level championship will now represent Tamil Nadu in the national Silambam competition, which is scheduled to be held in Dehradun from December 15 to 18.
The prize distribution ceremony was led by Grietta Bharathi's State Deputy Secretary, Elangovan. Those present included Mr Anbarasu, Founder and Karthikeyan, President, Attur Vasishta Silambam Academy.
