In the past week, 100 threats were made against various airlines, causing disruptions. Despite many being hoaxes, they create serious problems for passengers and airlines, costing up to Rs 4 crore per threat. Most threats come via social media using Virtual Personal Networks (VPNs). The Civil Aviation Authority is cracking down and held a meeting with airline CEOs in Delhi.
Suspicions are raised that the bomb threats are aimed at causing a setback in Indian air defence. That is why Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu has suggested to the Central Government that some amendments should be made in the Civil Aviation Safety Act to impose severe penalties. The central government is also actively considering it.
As far as our country is concerned, such crimes can only be prevented if the perpetrators of bomb threats are punished severely. A prison sentence ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment is being considered appropriate. Bomb threats to airplanes underscore the need to tighten laws accordingly.
Therefore, the new law should be passed in the next session of Parliament itself and come into effect quickly. There is no doubt that Indian airspace is very safe. Let's confirm it again!
