Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Department of Plant Biotechnology, hosted an insightful guest lecture on the topic "Plants as Biofactories: The Future of Sustainable Production".
The event was held in a hybrid mode at the Public Defense Hall, O/o Dean (SPGS), attracting a wide range of academicians, students, and industry professionals.
Dr. Selvaraju Kanagarajan, an eminent Associate Professor of Plant Biotechnology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Örebro University, Sweden, delivered the lecture. Dr. Selvaraju is renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to plant biotechnology, particularly in utilizing plants as efficient platforms for sustainable production.
The program began with a warm welcome and speaker introduction by Dr. N. Senthil, Director of the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (CPMB&B). Dr. Senthil highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge biotechnological advancements in addressing global challenges such as food security, climate change, and sustainable development.
During the lecture, Dr. Selvaraju discussed innovative approaches to leveraging plants as biofactories for producing pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and other industrially valuable compounds.
He emphasized the potential of plant-based systems to revolutionize production methods by reducing environmental impact and enhancing scalability.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. E. Kokiladevi, Ph.D., Professor & Head of the Department of Plant Biotechnology.
