Education comes on the concurrent list. But ignoring it, the Union government quickly passed the 10% reservation law for the economically disadvantaged.
In this regard, the BJP petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting that the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka implement a ten percent reservation policy for the economically poor among the upper caste. A case had been filed by advocate G.S. Mani. The case was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are unable to implement it, as per the Supreme Court's decision.
In other words, this ruling has made it clear that it is illegal to impose economic criteria on reservations.
The need for federalism, which is not only a barrier to the operation of the Union Government, which has the authority to strip states of their rights at will, has been subtly pressured by the Supreme Court.
Welcome the verdict!
