Sanitary worker’s daughter to adorn Municipal Commissioner’s Chair

Durga a mother of two and daughter of Shekhar of Mannarkudi and wife Selvi (a sanitary worker) could not clear the Tamilnadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group-1 and Group-2 exams despite several attempts, highlighting the challenges faced by a young woman.
Durga, who wrote the TNPSC Group - 2 exams in 2022 and passed the preliminary test, also cleared the preliminary exam held in 2023. She succeeded in the interview held in 2024 and is now going to take charge as Municipal Commissioner of Thiruthuraipoondi.
Chief Minister M. K Stalin, who handed over the appointment order to her, congratulated Durga as an example of how education has the power to advance a generation.
Shekhar's daughter's wish has been fulfilled by receiving the job order from the hands of the chief minister. But Durga's father Shekhar was not alive to see it.
But as an example that persistent effort is sure to succeed, she has become a role model for many who participate in competitive exams, especially for women.
