Salem District Library undergoes major renovation

Salem District Collector Dr. R. Brindha Devi, inspected the Salem District Central Library on September 28, 2024, focusing on facilities for students preparing for competitive exams. She reviewed renovation works underway at Rs 1.68 crore financial outlay.
The Collector highlighted that the renovation aligns with the Chief Minister’s initiative to enhance libraries and establish knowledge centers, particularly benefiting students preparing for competitive exams. The Salem District Central Library, with 1.94 lakh books, includes 3,044 volumes dedicated to exam preparation, alongside collections in arts, literature, science, history, and more. There is also a children’s section with books on cartoon films, coloring, and paper sculptures.
With over 250 students using the library daily, along with 150 general readers, the Collector emphasized the importance of providing essential amenities such as drinking water, restrooms, and proper ventilation. She also called for maintaining an updated stock of books required for competitive exams to better serve students.
Dr. Brindha Devi directed the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, overseeing the renovation, to complete the project within a month, ensuring timely availability of upgraded facilities for the public. 
The inspection was attended by District Librarian Mr. T. Vijayakumar, Mr. Damodaran,Revenue Divisional Officer and other officials.
