Renaming of a road: A tribute to the evergreen voice of South Indian Cinema

One of the most iconic voices in South Indian cinema, playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam (SPB), continues to live on in the hearts of fans worldwide through his more than 40,000 songs. His immortal line, "Even if this body perishes, I will bloom as music," resonates deeply.
Four years ago, in 2020, SPB succumbed after battling COVID-19, leaving a void in the South Indian film industry. Recently, his son, S.P.B. Charan, submitted a petition to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, requesting to rename Kamdar Nagar in Nungambakkam, Chennai, where SPB lived, as "S.P. Balasubrahmanyam Nagar."
In less than 36 hours, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin approved the request, announcing that the main road in Kamdar Nagar would be renamed "S.P. Balasubrahmanyam Road" on his death anniversary (September 25). This decision has been widely praised by film personalities, including composer Ilaiyaraaja and actor Kamal Haasan.
S.P.B Charan has expressed gratitude on behalf of his family through a video message, thanking the Chief Minister for this honour. Undoubtedly, this gesture will ensure that S.P. Balasubrahmanyam’s name and legacy continue to be cherished and remembered by all for generations to come.
