Online filing of nominations is need of the hour

On Monday when several party candidates came to file their nominations at the same time there were clashes between the parties sporadically in Tamilnadu.
In the North Chennai constituency, the argument between DMK and AIADMK candidates lasted for more than an hour as to who should file their nomination first. There was a tense atmosphere. As a result, there was a heavy traffic jam on the roads in the area for about 5 hours.
Skirmishes reportedly took place when L. Murugan, the BJP Leader and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and the AIADMK candidate went to submit nominations at the same time. K Annamalai, the BJP’s state president engaged in a road blockade and the police reportedly resorted to a lathicharge. In other places too, traffic jams were caused due to the problems during the filing of nominations and people were put to hardship.
The Election Commission of India, which has the largest electoral structure in the world, began modernising its processes since 1993 when it introduced the Photo Voter ID Card, the Electronic Voting Machine was introduced in 1998 and the VVPAT machine that tells who a person voted for, and the Colour Voter Card in 2014.
Accordingly, there has been a demand to implement 100 per cent online nomination filing system in the elections. A petition has been submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu as a request on behalf of the public. As most of the government services are provided online, people feel that it is better to include this in the list.
So in tune with the times, 100% online system for nomination filing should be brought into effect. If this is implemented, it will not cost even Rs100 to file the nomination. Most importantly law and order issues will not arise. After five minutes of work, candidates can go about their campaign work. Neither can impersonation happen.
It is the demand of the people that the online nomination system should be implemented at least in the next elections. But Parliament has to approve this.
As the Election Department of Tamil Nadu has suggested to the Election Commission of India that 100 percent online nomination filing should be implemented. The Election Commission of India should continue to put pressure on the Union Government and take steps to implement the online nomination system!
