With the approach of Pongal, the sale of earthen pots has started heating up in all regions.
Kanagaraj, a young graduate from Mugasiyanumanpalli next to Modakurichi in Erode district, is running a pottery making unit.
Various beautiful earthen pots are manufactured and sold in his unit.
Kanagaraj who is the President of Erode District Pottery Workers Association said:
No one has celebrated Pongal with full joy for the past 3 years due to Corona.
Due to this, Pongal pots were not sold in large quantities.
This year we have introduced earthen pots with beautiful colorful paintings for Pongal. Similarly, we have also made animal figures and put them on sale.
Since Pongal is a few days away, many people come from not only Erode but also Tirupur, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and other districts to buy painted earthen pots and toys.
A pot according to its engraving costs Rs. 100 to 1500.
The authorities should issue permission to take clay, the raw material required for making earthen pots, without delay.
Also, our demand is that the Tamil Nadu government should give various concessions to the pottery workers in order to give them due recognition, he said.
