Chief Minister M. K. Stalin declared open the flyover between Ukkadam and Athupalam in Coimbatore district.
He inaugurated the new 3.8 km flyover constructed from Ukkadam to Athupalam Junction at a cost of Rs.481 crore on behalf of the Highways Department in order to speed up the journey from Ukkadam to Pollachi and Palakkad.
The Ukkadam ramp is 150 meters long and 8.45 meters high, the Palakkad Road ramp is 162 meters long and 8.20 meters high, the Palakkad Road ramp is 144 meters long and 7.58 meters high and the Pollachi Road ramp is 140 meters long and 8.40 meters high. Sungam, Valangulam boarding platform has been constructed and the works have been completed.
The Chief Minister traveled by car on the flyover. Ministers K. Ponmudi, E. V. Velu, S. Muthusamy, Geethajeevan, Anbil Mahesh Poiyamozhi, Coimbatore Mayor R. Ranganayaki, MPs Ganapathirajkumar, K. Easwarasamy, MLAs vanathi srinivasan, Chief Secretary Sivdas Meena, Highways and Minor Ports Department Secretary Dr. R. Selvaraj, Coimbatore District Collector Krantikumar Padi, and representatives of local bodies and senior government officials were present.
Due to the construction of the flyover, there was a heavy traffic jam in the area of Ukkadam Athupalam, Karumbukkadai and Pothanur road. Heavy vehicles were diverted for about 3 km via Puttu Vikki Road. It took around 25 minutes for the vehicles to wait in a long queue. Once the flyover is opened, the 3.8 km long flyover can be easily crossed in 5 minutes. All types of vehicles can easily use the flyover. As the flyover work that has been going on for the past 6 years has been completed, vehicles going to Coimbatore, Pollachi and Palakkad can move quickly without any problem.
After this, he laid the foundation stone for the development projects of Coimbatore Classic Park Library and Intellectual Centre.
Apart from this, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated the new building for the Department of Biology and Social Sciences, which was built at a cost of Rs. 40 crore at Bharatiyar University, unveiled the statue of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, hoisted the DMK flag on the 116-feet tall flagpole at Karumathampatti. He arrived at Coimbatore airport at 1 pm and departed for Chennai.
