The 2nd edition of ‘The Cheshire Home Charity Cup ‘was held yesterday at the Coimbatore Golf Club. The main objective of the event was to spread awareness, as well as raise funds for the philanthropic activities of Cheshire Homes Coimbatore (CHC). The event saw 96 golfers representing 4 teams in a Six Ball Scramble format.

CHC, founded in 1967, is a member of the Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance, a worldwide organization with affiliations in 55 countries. 

Listing down the services offered, M.Duraiswamy, Secretary, CHC said that it is a running a home for people with mental illness, where treatment is provided free of cost. He stated that currently around 40 patient-residents are undergoing treatment at the home.

Highlighting the work that CHC is doing for the differently-abled he said that it is running a ‘Livelihood Resource Center’ where training is provided in various skills such as tailoring, bakery and computers, to mention only some.

Duraiswamy further added that at the Paraplegia Rehabilitation Center of CHC, provides free physiotherapy services. The centre has 3 qualified physiotherapists and also provides free transportation facility (within a radius of 25 km/day).

Pointing out to CHC’s Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Centre, he mentioned that it is a 6-bed centre, with facilities for admission of patients, since treatment of spinal injuries typically takes a longer duration of time, ranging anywhere between 3-6 months.

Duraiswamy said under its ‘First Step’ – early intervention program of CHC, support is provided in the form of treatment and surgery to children born with deformities.

According to V.R.Narenkumar, Vice Chairman, CHC, during the first edition of the Charity Cup held last year, Cheshire Homes was able to raise around Rs.20 lakhs as funds from the golf club members. He added that the funds are being utilized towards improving the different facilities at Cheshire Home. 

He also thanked the Coimbatore Golf Club for the successful conduct of the event.

R.Gopinath, President, Coimbatore Golf Club addressing the media said that on behalf of the club he thanked CHC for coming forward to conduct this golf tournament to build awareness about the fine work that they are doing for the upliftment of the people who are lesser advantaged. 

The Charity Cup saw 96 golfers, representing 4 teams in Six Ball Scramble format. While ‘Tuskatics were the team event winners, ‘Sharp Shooters’, were the runners up.

In the Individual Stableford category, V.R.Naren Kumar, T.Pranav Shyam and D.Rajasekharan emerged as winners while, C.Chandrasekhar, S.Karthik Ram and Varoon Palaninathan were the runners up.
