The government owned Barath Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Ltd introduced Pipeline Natural Gas (PNG) project in Erode and Nilgiris districts.
BPC general manager (retail) Dhandapani, Territory Manager Achuthanandan and assistant manager Senthil Kumar introduced various new instalment schemes to pay deposit of Rs 6000 to get household gas connection in the R-Day celebration held at the BPC Bunk at Perundurai Road Erode on Friday.
They said that the BPC targeted to give 8 lalh connections in the 2 districts and the registration process of the consumers was started. Compared to the LPG, the cost of Natural Gas is nearly 10 to 20 percent less.
Now pipeline erection work was going on in both the districts to provide gas to the houses in major towns.
In this regard, the gas would come in big bullet containers to the storage yard to be established in the Sipcot, Perundurai.
Around 1.5 acre land was provided by the government in this regard in Sipcot.
Compared to the LPG, the natural gas is more safe. In case of leakage from the refill, the LPG (liquified petroleum gas) would spread on the floor. But the natural gas would evaporate in the air due to its light weight.
The nation has many natural gas resources in various areas and the Centre gave permission to various oil firms like        BPC, IOC, Adani etc to tap them and supply them through pipeline to the houses, industries and commercial premises.
The cost would depend on the international price as the compressed natural gas is also imported from abroad.
In Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai already the PNG supply was given to houses.
Though the deposit is Rs 6000, people can remit it in various instalment from 1 to 7 years.
Even by paying Re 1 per day as deposit one can get the connection for 1 year.
It is more useful for tenants.
In Erode Thindal and Perundurai areas, the household PNG connections would be given within a year, they
added.
