During a recent press conference in Tiruchirappalli, Edappadi K. Palaniswami's sudden shift in his response about election alliances stirred political debate. He mentioned that alliances would be determined closer to the election and emphasized AIADMK's goal of forming alliances with like-minded parties to overthrow the DMK government.
However former AIADMK minister D.Jayakumar clarified in an interview yesterday, stating, "There is no alliance or relationship with the BJP. Edappadi Palanisamy's statement has been misunderstood." At the same time, other AIADMK officials gave vague responses. Palaniswami yesterday, Deputy General Secretary K.P. Munusamy was asked by reporters if AIADMK still stands firm on its previous stance of having no alliance with the BJP. However, he deflected the question by saying, "Whatever the secret may be, ask only about today's event. I cannot speak about the alliance." Former Minister Thangamani gave a similar response.
While Jayakumar's remarks on the alliance were clear, other former ministers provided conflicting, unclear answers, reigniting the debate within AIADMK about the BJP-AIADMK alliance. Senior AIADMK leaders have expressed differing views. This raises speculation that AIADMK might be making a strategic move in the political chess game. With the DMK targeting victory in 200 constituencies, the question remains whether Edappadi Palaniswami is preparing to revive the old alliance to counter this.
