The winter wildlife census in 10 forest ranges of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve began on Wednesday. A total of 304 people including Forest Guards, and Anti-Poaching Guards in their respective forest ranges were given survey training for the last 3 days. Accordingly, 76 groups will survey elephants, tigers, large herbivores, carnivores, etc on the basis of animals remains, scratches, footprints and direct observation of wild animals. Various tools including sophisticated cameras, MSTP, GPS have been used in the survey work. The forest department officials said that the details collected during the 6-day survey will be submitted to the government.
