The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have criticized Vinesh Bhogat's joining the Congress party as showing that their struggle against the then president of the Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan, was politically motivated. Despite this, there are reports that the BJP leadership fears that the sentiments against Vinesh Phogat may turn against them in the assembly elections as there is a nationwide sympathy for Vinesh Phogat.
