Villupuram District Collector Dr. C Palani conducted an inspection on September 14 to review the progress of new residential houses being constructed for Sri Lankan Tamils residing in camps at Kiliputhupattu Panchayat, Marakanam Panchayat Union. This project is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s initiative under the directives of Chief Minister MK Stalin to provide permanent housing for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.
The construction project, which is valued at Rs. 23.4 crore, includes the development of 440 houses, with each individual house costing Rs. 5.31 lakh. In addition, four combined residential complexes are being built at a cost of Rs. 21.27 lakh each. The housing units will feature essential amenities such as drinking water, electricity, toilets, roads, and an overhead water tank. Each house is designed with a bedroom, kitchen, living room, and separate toilet and bathroom.
Collector Palani reported that the construction is 90 percent complete and has instructed officials to expedite the remaining work. He was accompanied by Additional Collector (Development) Sruthanjai Narayanan, Rural Development Executive Engineer Raja, Marakanam Tahsildar Balamurugan, and other departmental officers during the inspection.
