Incessant rains in Yercaud have led to the collapse of three trees on the mountain road, disrupting traffic for more than an hour. The incident occurred near the 60-feet bridge on the Yercaud mountain road at around 1 p.m. yesterday when a large old tree fell across the road. Two nearby trees followed suit, also blocking the roadway.
Fortunately, no vehicles were present at the time of the incident, preventing what could have been a major accident, according to official sources. However, the fallen trees caused a significant traffic jam, with numerous tourists and local residents stranded on the road for over an hour.
Upon receiving the information, officials from the Highways Department arrived at the scene and immediately began clearing the road. Workers used machetes to cut down the smaller branches, allowing for temporary vehicle passage. Later, with the help of tree-cutting machinery, all the trees were fully removed by 3 p.m., restoring normal traffic flow.
