Ahead of the Pongal festival, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Friday announced Rs 1,000 and gift hampers to ration card holders. He also announced that Rs 1,000 under the monthly honorarium for women family heads will be distributed on January 10 this month.
Every year the state government has been distributing gift hampers consisting of rice, sugar cane and jaggery for ration card holders. The gift hampers will be distributed to 2.19 crore card holders – rice card holders and refugee card holders – and a sum of Rs 238.92 crore was allotted for the same.
