In a remarkable display of resourcefulness, 15-year-old Abhishek from Salem district's Athur has transformed his old bicycle into an eco-friendly, battery-powered vehicle.
This innovation has slashed his daily commute to school from 45 minutes to just 15 minutes.
Abhishek, a 10th-standard student at Ramanaickenpalayam Government Higher Secondary School, faced a daunting 7-kilometer journey to reach the main road, where he could catch a bus.
Determined to find a solution, he and his father, Senthi, a farmer, collaborated to design and build the battery-powered cycle.
The modified cycle boasts a 2800 RPM motor and a 30 kmph top speed, achieving an astonishing 30 kilometers per rupee. Abhishek's ingenuity has not only saved time but also earned him praise from the community.
Abhishek's father, Senthi, a farmer from Sakthinagar, Athur, expressed pride in his son's achievement.
"We couldn't afford a two-wheeler, but Abhishek's determination inspired me to support him. We worked together, and his innovation has made our lives
easier." Abhishek's mother, Chandra, added, "We're thrilled to see our son's creativity and resourcefulness. He's set an example for other students."
Abhishek's family, including his younger sister, has been supportive throughout his journey. Senthi emphasized, "As parents, we encouraged Abhishek to explore his interests and provided guidance whenever needed.
Abhishek's achievement serves as a testament to the power of creativity and  potential for grassroots innovation to address everyday challenges, making him a role model for young minds in rural India.
