Tourism Minister Mr. K. Ramachandran inaugurated the district level sports competitions for the Chief Minister's Trophy held on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority on Tuesday at Udagai Hills Development Project Open Stadium, Nilgiris District. District Collector Mrs. Lakshmi Bhavya Thanneru presided.
The Minister said Tamil Nadu has allocated more than Rs.1,000-crore for the sports sector in the last 3 years and Chennai has world class sports.
Modern facilities and renovation works have been carried out in the Indoor Stadium, Nehru Stadium, Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Tennis Stadium and Swimming Pools. Along with infrastructure facilities of Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Stadium and Nehru Indoor Stadium located in Chennai, installation of new synthetic fiber athletic track, LED lighting facilities and renovation work has been done at a cost of Rs.60 crore.
On this occasion, District Revenue Officer Mr. Narayanan, Udagai Municipal President Mrs. Vaneeswari, Municipal Vice Presidents Mr. Ravikumar (Udagai), Mr. Vasimraja (Coonoor), Udagai Panchayat Union President Mr. Mayan, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer Ms. Indira, attended the event.
