The South Asian Chapter of Women for Ethical AI (W4EAI) under UNESCO was officially inaugurated at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, marking the culmination of the four-day International Conference on Gender and Technology. Organised by UNESCO and Amrita, the event aimed to enhance women’s involvement in the digital technology sphere.
The announcement was made in the presence of UNESCO Representative Gabriela Ramos, Prof. Eunsong Kim, Chief of SHS Section, UNESCO South Asia Region, and Dr. Ramadevi Lanka. The newly launched chapter, led by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, seeks to foster women’s contributions to AI development, uniting professionals from industry, government, and civil society across South Asia.
Dr. Justin Paul attended the closing ceremony as the distinguished guest, alongside key figures including Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, President of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and Dr. Maneesha V Ramesh, University Provost. Other notable attendees included Dr. Bhavani Rao, Dean of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan, Dean of PG Programs at the School of Engineering.
Supported by the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) and its Kerala Chapter, the conference featured 50 experts leading discussions, lectures, and workshops. A mega hackathon and exhibitions further highlighted the event, fostering innovation and collaboration.
