Gukesh Dommaraju, a young Indian grandmaster from Tamil Nadu, has made history by becoming the world’s youngest chess champion.
The tie score in the championship secured Gukesh’s victory, crowning him as the 18th world chess champion and earning him prize money of Rs. 21 crore.
“Becoming the world chess champion has been my main goal for ten years,” shared Gukesh, expressing immense pride in his achievement. “I thought this match would end in a draw, but I have realized the dream I had since I was 11—to become a young world champion and set a record,” he added.
Congratulatory messages poured in from across the nation, with President Draupadi Murmu, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and chess legend Viswanathan Anand lauding his extraordinary feat.
