The Tamil Nadu Department of Agricultural Engineering is offering electric motors and automatic pump sets that can be operated via mobile phones under a government subsidy program.
Many farmers rely on old and inefficient electric motor pump sets, which consume more power and take longer to irrigate crops. To address this issue, the government has introduced a scheme to provide subsidies for small and marginal farmers to replace their outdated pump sets with modern electric motors. Under this program, farmers can receive a subsidy of Rs. 15,000 or 50 percent of the cost when purchasing electric motor pump sets from government-approved companies.
Additionally, farmers often face hazards such as snake bites and insect bites when operating pump sets at night or during the rainy season. To mitigate these risks, the government is providing mobile phone-operated automatic pump set control devices. These devices enable farmers to operate and monitor pump sets remotely, eliminating the need to visit fields in person. The devices are offered at a 50 percent subsidy, up to a maximum of Rs. 7,000.
