At Coimbatore Airport, officials from the Revenue Investigation Division seized gold worth Rs. 63.24 lakhs from a passenger arriving on a flight from Singapore. During a search, the officials found 4 gold bars and gold jewellery weighing 854 grams in the passenger's bag. The individual was arrested and is currently being interrogated. It appears that the gold was brought in without paying the required duty. The Revenue Intelligence Department has issued a reminder that goods, including gold, should not be brought into the country without proper tax payments.
